GiveCamp Videos Page

Rather than try to manage a whole bunch of videos manually, I’ve updated the Media page to find all teh GiveCamp videos on YouTube and display them in a list. You can see the results at http://givecamp.org/media.

If you want your GiveCamp videos to show up there, please tag them with #givecamp so that I can find them.

Also, if you see any videos show up on that list that are *not* related to GiveCamp, please let me know that too and I’ll get them excluded.

Social Media for Non Profits

Giovanni Gallucci, Social Media Expert, talks to GiveCampers about maximizing their investment in Social Media in their Non-profit organizations. There is not much to the video, so I’ll eventually post an audio-only version as well.

Ann Arbor GiveCamp Videos

Thanks to Dave Giard for posting these to his blog!

At the Ann Arbor Give Camp, almost 50 volunteers got together to build software for a dozen charities. This episode takes you behind the scenes at this great event.

An extended 60-minute version of this episode will appear in January on Channel 17 in Ann Arbor, MI. Below is this extended version

Southwest Ohio GiveCamp a Success!

This past weekend, Ryan Cromwell and the incredible developer community of Southwest Ohio participated in the Southwest Ohio GiveCamp.  His staff of 12 Organizers, 65 Volunteers, over the course of 36 hours (1440 hours individually), with over 200 repository commits and a TON of caffeine, resulted in $144,000 in value delivered to 10 needy charities in the Cincinnati area. Feedback from the volunteers was amazing, and all the charities were very happy with the work that was done for them.

Here’s a list of the charities helped by the GiveCamp:

There is also a great photo gallery online if you want to check out more pictures – personally, I like this one: a Dad teaching his son about how important it is to give back to the community.

Congratulations to all involved, and especially to the charities that now have new or updated websites! A special shout-out also goes to event organizer Ryan Cromwell for putting on such a great event!

CodeCast Episode 62: GiveCamp with Chris Koenig

In this episode of CodeCast, Ken Levy (@kenlevy) interviews Chris Koenig (@chriskoenig), a Developer Evangelist for Microsoft in the Dallas, Texas office. This is an in-depth discussion about the history, status, and roadmap for GiveCamp events in various cities. GiveCamp was an idea hatched by Chris a few years ago, and now there are many GiveCamp events organized around the country with expansion plans this year. GiveCamp is a weekend long event where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations. Some events focus on a specific technology like Microsoft .NET using Visual Studio or Expression Web. But using other technologies is often a possibility such as using Graffiti, Sitefinity, DotNetNuke, WordPress, Joomla, mojoPortal, Drupal, etc. The custom software created at GiveCamp could be a new website, a small data-collection application to keep track of members, Facebook page, a rich client or even a mobile application. This episode of CodeCast is educational for any developers or organizers considering volunteering to participate in and benefit from an upcoming GiveCamp event.
