This past weekend, Ryan Cromwell and the incredible developer community of Southwest Ohio participated in the Southwest Ohio GiveCamp. His staff of 12 Organizers, 65 Volunteers, over the course of 36 hours (1440 hours individually), with over 200 repository commits and a TON of caffeine, resulted in $144,000 in value delivered to 10 needy charities in the Cincinnati area. Feedback from the volunteers was amazing, and all the charities were very happy with the work that was done for them.

Here’s a list of the charities helped by the GiveCamp:

http://setonfamilycenter.org

http://esc.schenzcustomdesigns.com (End Slavery Cincinnati)

http://civicgardencenter.org (Volunteer Service Coordination put online)

http://wincincy.probas.co (Foreclosure Prevention Assistance & Upcoming Events)

There is also a great photo gallery online if you want to check out more pictures – personally, I like this one: a Dad teaching his son about how important it is to give back to the community.

Congratulations to all involved, and especially to the charities that now have new or updated websites! A special shout-out also goes to event organizer Ryan Cromwell for putting on such a great event!

I’m still working up a nice blog post about the recent We Are Microsoft Charity Challenge event here in Dallas, but I wanted to share this post ASAP considering all the AMAZING work that Shawn Weisfeld put into it. The full list of videos he produced can be found at http://www.drowningintechnicaldebt.com/ShawnWeisfeld/archive/2010/01/18/we-are-microsoft-aka-givecamp-dallas-2010-recordings.aspx. Shawn’s captured video from just about EVERYTHING that went on last weekend – everything from the kickoff video to the closing ceremonies, and all the training in between. Thanks a BILLION Shawn for doing all this!

Also, Toi has started putting together a listing of all the blogs, photo galleries, and more up on the We Are Microsoft web site at http://www.wearemicrosoft.com/Blog/011910.aspx. I’m working on something similar for the GiveCamp.org site to go along with the eventual blog post that I make later this week. If you have a post, video, recording, or other thing that you’d like to contribute to either (or both), send me a note and let me know. I’ll make sure that Toi gets it so that she can update her event site, and I’ll include it in my post at GiveCamp.org.
